When you melee an enemy no sound que plays and the enemy does not flinch. It is often very hard to tell if my punch connected. Making enemies get staggered by a melee punch can give the player some breathing room if they run out of ammo in CQB or get caught off guard. (Think John Wick when he judo chops summon in the neck to give himself time to reload.)
Glass also does not break or register a melee.
A 3rd weapon slot for purchasable melee weapons could be a great addition. They can do bonus damage to unaware enemies or certain armor types.
