Smoke Grenade Timing

It would be nice if the smoke grenade could be toggled to impact or we could adjust the throw distance.

The specific issue is I was on a solo hostage rescue in the office building. The hostage was on the roof. I didn’t bring an extra ladder with me, so my only option was the interior ladder. I had smokes and tried to throw them onto the roof from the base of the interior ladder, but it airbursted like 20 feet above the roof instead. When I climbed up, a heavy tank immediately shredded me.

It was not intuitive for how I could get a smoke onto the roof in this situation to cover my ascent.
