The stealth in this game feels at times either reasonable to stealth on flat maps like office or unfair due to random enemies seeing you a floor above you or two rooms away on rig or mall. A few rework suggestions would be.
Make the vision cones detection rate be based on obstructions in the way. This can stop being randomly seen by a pixel.
Vision is less when looking down.
Be able to turn off lights. Be able to turn off a breaker to shut off the lights to reduce the detection rate.
Reduce the detection rate when in dim or darkness. Makes it easier to move around silently.
Add a detection rate to armor. Bit much for the game but it adds more benefit to light armor.
Floor debris makes noise. Floor debris like glass or rubble can increase the radius that your steps can be heard by 50% up to 2x depending on stance.
Stealth damage. Have enemies “not wear a helmet” when in stealth to make non lethal weapons stand a bit on a chance on heavies.
Silenced bullets or thrown grenades make the ai investigate. Add a few seconds to react to it and have a animation.
Ai callouts on dead bodies. The AI needs to investigate the body if it is knocked out when patrolling but lethal kills are instantly seen.
Alert system. The more loud kills there are the more alert everyone becomes.
Stealth escape. Depending on alert level the escape goes faster the lower it is.
Detection rate can only be reduced down to 10% per second with obstructions and darkness. But repeated stealth detections on the same guy get harder the more you are in their vision. So 10 secs to 5 secs at near max. Raid and boss can have “Stealth not possible” tag to tell people that they are loud only. Some of these changes may make stealth easier or too practical but it might reward a slower playstyle.
