It is currently not possible to break glass with a melee attack, you are forced to shoot it. This feels quite strange for new players and should probably be made possible.
This is now in testing internally and is expected to return in our next update.

Thank you for providing this feedback. We will go ahead and allow players to break glass with a melee attack. As a result, we will be removing the “Glass Cutter” gadget from the loadout store.
I notice that breaking the glass is not possible with melee. But, I thought to myself why not keep it that way…. and add a tactical glass cutter/glass breaking tool into the game to add a whole new entry dynamic into the game. I believe it would add a new way of being a lot more tactical and it’ll be badass if you can just make a circle or square into the glass to go into like a spy. Some James bond shit you know.

This does sound like a great tool for stealth (if it ever becomes viable), and does sound more practical then punching the window out (yummy glass fragments)
